Session Title: Ethical Considerations for the Use of “Artificial Intelligence” or “A.I.”

Speaker: Ben Humphrey

Ben Humphrey is a deputy workers’ compensation commissioner with the Workers’ Compensation Division (WCD) of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, & Licensing, a role he has served in since 2018. Before joining WCD, he served as legal counsel for Iowa Workforce Development, served as a civil rights specialist the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, and worked in private practice. Ben graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and then Drake University Law School. He lives in the Des Moines area with his wife, three children, and two dogs.

  2. Teach the basics of how some “A.I.” systems work
  3. Identify possible use cases for lawyers
  4. Explore possible implications of “A.I.” usage by a lawyer against the backdrop of the Iowa Code of Professional Conduct for Lawyers
